GTTA was started on 9th December 2010 with an aim to provide best in class infrastructure to Table Tennis players of Andhra Pradesh thereby producing world class Indian Players and to make Andhra Pradesh a hub for Table Tennis in India.
Three sports lovers, Dr. S.Ramu, Ramdoss Bharathan and B.S. Rao came together to launch GTTA with an aim to provide the finest training for budding paddlers. While Mr.Rao, an advocate, acts as the president, Dr. S.Ramu, a senior journalist and journalism educator, a PhD in Communication and Journalism, is the secretary and Mr. Ramdoss, a senior banker is the Vice-President of the Academy. Other people from various professions have also joined hands with the sheer interest to promote the game.
Hailing from the Mecca of TT in India (West Bengal), Somnath Ghosh, has been the chief mentor of GTTA. A ranked player himself, Som facilitates high quality coaching for the players. He has been a mentor for Olympian & Arjuna Awardee Ms. Paulomi Ghatak for the past six years. He represented India in the Year 2000 in the Under-19 Asian School Games held at Hong Kong.
He was All-India Railway Champion in 2002 and Silver Medalist in Mens' Doubles in National Championship in 2006. He was the silver medalist in 2003 in the All India Railways meet held at Lucknow and Bronze medalist in 2004 in the All India Railways Meet held at Assam. Som was School National Champion twice. He has been representing Andhra Pradesh in the National Championships for the last ten years and himself mens state champion. He won two Bronze medals for Andhra Pradesh in National Games held at Hyderabad in 2003.
